This Foundation Made My Skin Look Better Than It Ever Has

Ivan Lattuada

I love hearing buzz around a new beauty product because I’m immediately tempted to try it. That’s not to say I automatically believe the hype, but I’ll absolutely give it a go. So when Rihanna announced her eponymous Fenty Beauty makeup collection at Sephora, I was excited (as a Rihanna fan), but also skeptical (as a beauty editor). Then I heard the brand’s Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation would be available in 40 shades and I was thrilled—to me inclusivity is everything.

So I decided to pick up a bottle and see how well it would blend with my own skin tone and texture. While it’s full coverage, it lives up to the soft matte claim in its name as it doesn’t feel cakey or heavy on the skin. Did I see a single blemish, crease or shine spot? Not at all. In fact, my complexion was so smooth it was almost as if I had an extra layer of skin, which is exactly what foundation is meant to achieve but rarely does. I was sold.

When it comes to the much talked-about pigment range, the hype is legit. While it says it’s made for all skin types, I’d say it works especially well for those with oily and combination skin. For dry complexions, I suggest applying moisturizer beforehand. Tempted to test-drive it yourself? Shop it below, as well as more of our all-time favorite full-coverage foundations.
