How To Rock Metallic Eye Shadow

by The Zoe Report

Next up in our fall beauty series, Team Zoe beauty buff Joey Maalouf takes our lids to luster-land with a major metallic eye shadow look!

Glitzy Goddess:

Inspired by the bold metallic lids seen on Gucci, Thakoon and Jason Wu’s Fall 2013 runways, Joey recreated this party-perfect look to rock in real life!

Before You Start:

Because this look is all about the eyes, make sure your brows are properly groomed! Invest in a brow kit to achieve arch perfection.

Key Products:

Tom Ford Beauty Eye Shadow Brush ($55), Make Up For Ever Glitters ($15 each), MAC Pigments ($21 each). For added staying power on your shadow, Joey also recommends Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($20)!

Don’t Hold Back—Shade To The Fullest!

This is not a look to hold back on—you gotta go big or go home! Joey advises that “instead of putting eye shadow on like normal (just to the eyelid fold), take it from the lashline all the way to the brow bone.” Pat your pigment of choice first onto your hand (as demonstrated on Joey), then re-apply to your brush to ensure optimal distribution of product. Add as needed.

Go Under The Eye For Major Drama:

Don’t neglect your under-eyes! Use a smaller brush (Joey prefers Tom Ford brushes!) to deposit shadow close to the lashline, then extend it up and out towards the very perimeter of your brows.

Complete The Look:

With heavy drama on your lids (add false lashes if you please!), Joey advises to “keep everything else super simple!” Even out your complexion with your preferred foundation, throw on some gloss then blot with a tissue to round out the look.

Shop Metallic Shadows:

Too Faced Glitter Glaze Shadow Top Coat ($21 each), Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in Glitter Rock ($20), Lancôme Color Design Infinité in Everlasting Rose ($25), Maybelline EyeStudio Cream Gel Shadow in Inked In Pink ($6), Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eye Shadow in Silver Moon ($32). Don't hesitate to play around with layering different metallic shadows atop one another—Joey used a combination of pinks & a dash of gold to achieve the perfect rosy hue on our model Alicia!
