How To Do Smoky Eye Makeup Without A Mirror

by Celeste Hughey

At Alexander Wang’s goth glam show, models were transformed into an “army of darkness” complete with studded platform creepers and wild, slicked hair. The makeup was pure rock-and-roll—think KISS and the Cure—and, without using mascara or eyeliner, makeup artist Diane Kendal achieved a party-ready smoky eye.

Get in the spirit of hard rock icons and throw away the rules (and tools!) because these rebellious eyes can be recreated with your fingers. Use a gray shadow stick that’s easy to smudge and focus the pigment towards the lash line to give your eyes more definition. A stick tends to be more sheer making it nearly foolproof. If you want extra shine and color, sweep a bit of charcoal-hued cream shadow onto the lids with your finger for added drama. Finish with a touch of brow gel and you’re ready to take on the night.
