The Secret To Always Getting A Perfect Haircut

by Stephanie Montes

If you’re thinking about getting a new hairstyle this fall, you should know there is one major thing to take into consideration before getting a cut: your face shape. We met up with David Pierre Pappalardo, the Creative Director of the Fekkai Melrose Place Salon to get a trim and as it turns out, this detail is more important than you think. “A haircut can absolutely change the way you look,” he tells us. “It can emphasize the most beautiful parts of a woman’s face and even camouflage certain areas you don’t want to highlight.” Here, find out what cut works best for your face shape. And trust us, speaking from experience, this strategy works.

For: Square Faces

“A square shape refers to a strong jaw line, which is a beautiful feature you want to highlight. Update your look with an edgy bob, lob or even a pixie cut.”

For Round Faces:

“Women who have round face shapes should consider asking for a cut that makes it look longer and thinner. The best way to create a narrow silhouette is to frame the face with a longer cut and style it with a side part to create an asymmetrical effect.”

For Oval Faces:

“The oval face shape is the most versatile and easiest to work with—any modern haircut will be flattering to this shape. Women with very fine or thin hair should always stick with a shorter length for added fullness. For a woman with a petite frame, my rule of thumb is keep your hair shorter than 1/3 of your body otherwise it makes you look shorter.”

For Heart-Shaped Faces:

“Heart shapes work well with any kind of length paired with a soft fringe. I try to avoid bangs with round faces or on a person with very strong features.”
