Easy Winter Hairstyle: Braided Buns

by Megan Gustashaw

Not only do double braided buns conjure images of the ’90s in all the right ways but they’re also remarkable easy to DIY. Try this sleek, feminine look before, during or after winter workouts and (on the other end of the spectrum) lazy-hair-don’t-care days when it’s all about hot chocolate, tailored sweats and a juicy Netflix queue. Feeling this look? Here’s how to whip it up in ten minutes flat.

Get The Look

1. Prep Hair

Bumble & Bumble, $38

To give hair that sleek, almost wet-look sheen apply a smoothing serum or hair oil to straight strands before styling.

2. Create Ponytails

Mason Pearson, $170

Use a hair-gripping bristle brush to smooth hair into two low ponytails, securing each with a thin elastic that matches your hair color.

3. Braid Hair

Scunci, $3

Braid each ponytail from the base of the elastic to the tip and secure. Make sure the ponytail is secured close to the scalp for maximinum braiding.

4. Coil And Pin

Gimme Basics, $4

Coil finished braids into a chignon, pinning to secure. As with the elastics, choose hair pins that match your hair color for a flawless look.

5. Finish With Hairspray

Serge Normant, $25

Use a flexible hairspray that doesn't strip hair of moisture to finish the look, ensuring hair stays in place during any activity.
