In your race to fill out your closet for the fall season, it is wise to keep your cosmetic cabinet at the forefront of your mind, too! Comparable to accessorizing, the most glamorous way to complement an autumn ensemble is with the season’s sought-after beauty looks. To brief you on said trends, we talked with MAC’s Director Of Makeup Artistry, Gregory Arlt, who brought us up to speed on a few key runway themes. Read them now and get ready to get gorgeous.

Fall/Winter ’12 is a VERY exciting season…makeup is back in full force! We saw many amazing trends on the runway, but the three that stood out the most to me were…
This look is all about perfect, flawless skin. Priming was a key focus backstage to set the canvas for everything else. Keep the eyes light and minimal, using shadows with slight sheen or reflection to make the skin “pop” while looking natural. Feathery, soft lashes are key and a soft cheek. Pair this with a natural lip, or go for the “bold” and rock a strong yet feminine red lip! I think every woman needs a red lip in their everyday makeup bag. It’s like the little black dress of makeup!
This look is punk chick chic! It’s all about eyeliner. Not just classic liner, but liner that evokes a sense of geometry and edginess. Taking the classics and making them non-conformist. If liquid liner is a bit intimidating, try a pencil liner on your eyes. Line the usual way you do it, but perhaps wing it out for some extra drama. And go for it with the mascara! Try “Haute and Naughty” mascara for a bold look. Pair it with a nude, soft lip.
This is a truly beautiful, clean, romantic look. Imagine that the bohemian downtown-girl has now grown into an urban gypsy—still quirky and independent, but with an evolved edge to her makeup. Think a VERY modern take on the smoky eye—a gunmetal gray with a hint of shine….a “see thru” smoky eye that makes it okay to wear during the day. Blackened plums and eggplants were used on the lids and around the lash line with soft brushes for a look that was more stained than smutty. Take one darker shadow, apply it to your lids, and then a bit under the eye for a wash of drama. For lighter to medium skin tones, this looks amazing with more of a natural plummy lip.
