Designer Anine Bing Shares Her Beauty Rules

by Kate Wolfson

Denmark-born Anine Bing has had quite a career. She started modeling at the tender age of 15, before becoming the lead singer/songwriter of the Scandinavian band Kill Your Darlings. But in the last two years, she’s been become best known for her eponymous clothing line, a go-to of the blogger and fashion sets for its easy chic basics and superb construction (we die for her leather jackets and studded booties). We should also mention she’s the mom to two adorable kids and the curator of an up-and-coming blog. Talk about our new girl crush. So what has this stunning triple-threat learned from her days in the spotlight? Skincare is everything. Here, we asked the LA-based bombshell (who just opened her first boutique on 3rd St. in West Hollywood) to spill her must-have lotions, potions and one very surprising beauty steal.

Rule #1: Know What Works For You

"My beauty MO in three words: Water (you can never drink enough), sun (in moderation), makeup (but always make sure to wash and cleanse your face before going to bed)."

Rule #2: Always Stay Polished

"The two products I keep coming back to are OPI's Malaga Wine and Lincoln Park After Dark. I'm obsessed with having perfect nails—it's the one thing I always make time for. I actually do them myself most of the time since it's too time-consuming to go to a salon."

Rule #3: Stick To A Routine

"I always start my regimen by removing all my makeup using Clarins remover followed by Sensai face wash and La Prairie Toner. Afterward, I mix serum and oil from Swedish brand Estelle & Thild and apply it all over my face and neck."

Rule #4: Never Skimp On Skincare

"Last but not least, I use an eye serum and face cream from La Prairie. This whole process takes a few minutes, but it's worth it since it’s imperative to take care of your skin. This is something I do every night—it's as important as brushing your teeth."

Rule #5: Keep Your Favorites Close

"I always have a Diptyque candle at my desk (Baies is my favorite scent) as well as fish-oil supplements which I take daily. It's super important for the body to get good fat. By Terry makes two of my favorite on-the-go products: Balm de Rose lip gloss for the perfect glow and a hint of pink to the lips, and a concealer for when I need a little touch-up. I also love Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer—it gives a subtle glow for daytime wear."

Rule #6: Nature Knows Best

"I am not into any kind of lipstick. I always prefer a natural look instead of a strong color on lips."

Rule #7: Care For Your Hair

"I change up my shampoo all the time. Right now, I'm using Kerastase, but to be honest I can't feel a huge different from using cheaper brands vs. the more expensive ones. I do love a good hair mask though. Kerastase make the best one. Another product I love is Wool Shake from Redken, but sadly, it's been discontinued."

Rule #8: Pick A Flower

"I used to be into perfumes with a vanilla scent, but for the last year or two I've been addicted to anything rose-smelling. Any rose perfume is welcome into my home."

Rule #9: Know When To Splurge (And When To Save)

"I splurge on products for my face—it really shows if you don't take good care of your skin. I save on body lotions by just using olive oil or coconut oil. Natural and cheap."

Rule #10: Have A Beauty Icon

"Jane Birkin is the epitome of natural beauty."
