Remember when the SATC characters stopped drinking Cosmos because everyone started drinking them? That's kind of what ombre hair is like for California girls. Suddenly, a trend that was just a hazard of beachside living became ubiquitous and we got a little, well, bored. Enter the resurgence of sleek '90s lobs and rich, monochromatic hues. But what about those of us that need a little light around the face? Well, Emrata has come to the rescue with her most recent style.

Rather than opting for a light hue only on the bottom third of hair, as is customary with ombre treatments, this alternative boasts exaggerated, well-blended root regrowth. Fittingly, this is a great option for the cooler winter months, especially when paired with nubby knits and sombre hues. The best way to achieve it? Pump the brakes on your highlighting schedule and ask your colorist to blend your regrowth gradually.
