It’s official: The classic braid is experiencing a bit of a Fashion Week upgrade. We’ve spied next-level twists on the runway, the street, and in the front row during the New York shows this week. Below, 3 fresh takes on an old favorite.
1. Olivia Palermo’s 5-Strand Braid
We spotted the always-chic It Girl during Rachel’s presentation rocking a a fabulous chunky braid. Upon closer inspection, we learned that the secret to the style was actually 5 individual strands woven into one.
2. Sofia Richie’s Mohawk Braid
The Richie clan is one seriously fashionable family so it’s no surprise that Sofia (sister to Nicole) is quickly becoming a style star. She’s been snapped all over Fashion Week rocking braids in her long, platinum blond hair. We especially loved it when she braided locks down her middle part for a mohawk effect.
3. Phillip Lim’s Post-Braid Waves
Okay, so it’s not technically a braid but we were just too impressed by the technique that went into the hair at the 3.1 Philip Lim show not to mention it. Pieces of models’ manes were braided, flat ironed, then untwisted. The effect? Effortlessly rumpled, tousled waves.
