There is so much sartorial excellence in store for us in 2016—we’re already bursting with excitement for spring. Having seen a preview of what’s to come via the runways, we tapped Editorialist CEO and accessories guru Kate Davidson Hudson to predict the trends that’ll trickle into the street-style scene (and ultimately the mainstream fashion landscape). Here, the accessories we’ll all be coveting this year.
Footwear
"This season will be all about flats. The mood for spring is one of laid-back ease. Most of the key accessories are understated, and flats dovetail perfectly. We'll see designer sneakers and heavier utility flats—from reimagined Birkenstocks to updates on the classic brogue. They're a subtle nod to a quieter, slightly androgynous mood and feel incredibly modern paired with feminine dresses or anchoring spring's cropped pants."
Scarves
"From silk Twillys, neckerchiefs and bandannas to long, skinny ties, scarves will be the new statement necklace. Tied as a cravat or loosely draped, it's a look that feels finished and perfectly taps into the nouveau-'70s vibe of the spring collections."
Handbags
"Another element of the modern-'70s ethos, the saddlebag is the shape of the season. I love the clean, pared-down versions styled cross-body with everything from deconstructed menswear blouses to bohemian maxis. Some will take more literal spins on retro motifs such as patchwork treatments, fringe and tassels."
Jewelry
"The jewelry focus remains on the ear, from shoulder dusters to graphic Calderesque statement drops to fresh takes on the ear climber. I love the new ear art—layering studs, ear cuffs and huggies. It's a fun way to experiment without overtaking your look."
