This Is The Trend That Will Replace Slime Green

According to Pantone, “Living Coral” is the color of 2019, but you wouldn’t know it to look at what women have actually been wearing this year. From the Fashion Week streets to Instagram feeds, everything is green, green, green. And it doesn’t seem like this verdant obsession will be easing up anytime soon. While spring and summer were dominated by slime green, Fall 2019 is poised to be all about the pistachio color trend and how to wear it. Not as bright as lime, nor as drab as olive, or blue as sea foam; pistachio is a soft, muted shade of green in the realm of sage, honeydew, warm mint, and light moss. It’s a sophisticated and modern alternative to its electric predecessors — a color that goes well with more than you’d expect, and feels of-the-moment and timeless all at once.

Pistachio feels refreshing in any form — as evidenced by the hue's sweeping presence on the Fall/Winter 2019 runways. Jil Sander offered several wearable takes on the trend: a structured, asymmetrical coat in pale vert paired with relaxed black trousers, sculptural separates in tonal greens, and long, loose suiting done in quiet herbal shades. At Sally LaPointe models wore head-to-toe pistachio, with monochrome ‘fits in lush botanical hues enhanced by a luxurious mix of textures, from slinky satin and fur, to sumptuous knits and buttery leather. Sour apple and gelato pastels were rendered in seasonable wool for autumn at Marc Jacobs, in satin at Maggie Marilyn, and frothy tulle at Molly Goddard, while Ryan Roche showcased whisper-light looks that merely hinted at the notion of green — perfect for all you color-averse dressers out there.

Off the catwalk, fashion girls are already eating up pistachio in generous servings. Some embrace the trend without restraint, opting for all-over color that showcases the pigment in superlative style. Others prefer to add pops of pistachio as part of a larger palette, mixing with neutrals or offsetting against bolder statement hues. Continue below to get inspired by some of the latest influencer outfits featuring this season’s new favorite color.

Texture Play

When styling a look within a single shade family, incorporating multiple textures like nubby tweed and supple leather will help add visual intrigue and contrast.

Sweater Set

The soft, grayish tones of certain pistachio pieces looks great with the perfectly worn-in blue of vintage denim. Opt for a cozy knit cardi or sweater for an easy, casual vibe.

Chic Contrast

A floaty mint-colored dress may feel too flimsy to wear once the weather cools, but a boxy menswear wool coat in a dark slate gray worn over the top will give it the extra weight you need. Plus, the contrast of heavy and light just looks really cool.

Statement Bottoms

Loose, relaxed trousers are peaking in popularity right now. Select a pair in a soft green hue and fabric that feels fluid and flowy, then add a crisp white shirt to polish off this effortless yet classic ensemble.

Smart Suiting

Sharp suiting feels entirely fresh and unstuffy in an unexpected celery hue. Wear the pieces together with tall leather boots for a put-together look, or style them separately (with other refined pairings, or more casual items) for even more outfit options.

All About Utility

Give shy sage a rugged appeal by layering with army green and khaki pieces that feature utilitarian details like zippers, roomy pockets, and drawstrings.

Sleek Satin

Cool aloe is the kind of color that feels especially sleek when rendered in silky satin textiles. A long silk dress with full sleeves will give you the slinky feel you're after, but with better wearability into the fall and winter months.

New Neutrals

Botanical shades like sage and thyme are this season's neo-neutrals. Pair with bold animal prints like zebra, leopard, or snake for a modern combination that's just the right balance of statement-making and understated.

Make A Statement

The slightly brighter shades in the pistachio spectrum — green apple, light fern, pastel lime — feel especially vivacious and oh-so-Instagrammable. A fresh-colored, voluminous maxi dress with some look-at-me shoes will have everyone seeing green.

Soft And Delicate

Sheer and pistachio are a trend match made in heaven. The delicate hue is beautifully complimented by a gossamer organza fabric. Plus, you'll get to check two trends off your need-to-try fashion bucket list.
