Here’s How To Wear Fall’s Top Trends Like A TZR Style Expert

by Kate Marin

Warm neutrals, cozy wool layering pieces, patent leather boots, and menswear-inspired tailoring — fall brings with it a slew of decadent wardrobe essentials and a handful of exciting fashion trends we’ve been lusting over for months. Now that the weather is finally starting to cool, we can’t wait to put our personal spin on some of the season’s best looks, and what better source to turn to for some expert styling advice than The Zoe Report’s very own Contributing Style Director Nicky Deam.

In partnership with Bloomingdales and Michael Kors, Deam reveals the six trends she’s looking out for this fall and breaks down two head-to-toe looks that bring those very details to life. From high-shine quilted puffers to chunky combat boots and metallic statement bags, fall has never looked this bright.

1 | COMBAT BOOTS

One of the many throwback trends that have quickly become a 2019 staple, combat boots are one of the most versatile (and practical) footwear options around. "These boots are easy to slip on and off (hello, side zipper) and the slim silhouette and high shine finish make the '90s silhouette feel fresh," Deam says. Paired with a more formal dress, combat boots anchor this look in daytime territory.

2 | METALLIC BAGS

"I am always interested in a classic, easy-to-wear silhouette that has been reinterpreted through an unexpected texture or fabrication," Deam says. "The tactile quality of this quilted shoulder bag makes the timeless shape feel so fresh, and it adds a thoughtful twist to any outfit.”

3 | ANIMAL PRINT

From snakeskin to leopard and everything in between, the animal kingdom is having a serious moment in the world of fashion. For fall, we’re turning to cheetah-print for added texture and dimension.

1 | QUILTED FABRICS

In bags, coats, and boots alike, working the quilted trend into your wardrobe leaves plenty of room for interpretation. "Quilting, in everything from outerwear to accessories, is a fun new textural trend that I can’t wait to wear,” Deam says.

2 | BOLD COLORS

Resilient to winter sludge and everyday wear-and-tear, it’s all too easy to opt for your trusty all-black outerwear. This year, we’re bringing some life back into our cold-weather wardrobes with outerwear staples in vibrant colors. “There are always subtle ways to tweak your favorite pieces to be on-trend without looking like you’re wearing a costume,” Deam explains. “The goal is always to feel like yourself, so your confidence can shine through.”

3 | '80S PRINTS

Combining the best of the patchwork and animal print trends, these sneakers are an effortless yet audacious finishing touch. I’d have to say the sneakers are my favorite part of this look,” Deam says. “They remind me of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and that’s always an uplifting style reference.”
